Qi Yang
Dr Qi Yang completed her PhD from Flinders University in 2017. She mainly focused on developing and validating the methodology to respond the various limitations in the study of marine sponges, particularly their identification and microbial diversity. She won 3-Minute Thesis award and Vice-Chancellor’s Prize for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. Since 2017, Dr Yang is working as a postdoc research associate at Flinders University. She uses her expertise in molecular biology and microbiology, with next generation sequencing technology (amplicon-based and metagenomic sequencing) to reveal the microbiomes within sponge cells. Her research focus is to improve the fundamental understanding of sponge extracellular and intracellular symbionts to explore untapped microbial resources and their potential functionalities.
